Einstein said, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” The takeaway? Using the wrong yardstick can do more harm than good.
As a recruiter, this translates to using the right evaluation tools and interview questions for each candidate. Take my experience with an engineering manager I worked with. Her primary “yardstick” was flawless document markup, but one brilliant design engineer struggled with it. As a result, she saw no value in him. He, however, created million-dollar designs for our company!
The point? Don’t let biases or one-size-fits-all metrics cloud your judgment. Those knockout questions when interviewing make sense if the job requires a nursing license, and the candidate doesn’t have one. But why disqualify a great accountant without a CPA for a role that doesn’t even require that?
Here’s where Career Opportunities International excels. We go beyond generic qualifications. We tailor our approach to identify a candidate’s unique strengths and how they align with your specific needs. When used, those knockout questions will be on point, and not tied to anyone’s personal biases.
